Safety Is Your Responsibility: Protect Yourself and the People You Love
Safety is more than a choice. It's a responsibility.
As we move through life, our responsibilities change.
When I was single, my primary responsibility was to protect myself. When I served in the Army, I also had a responsibility to my fellow soldiers. After I got married, my wife became part of that responsibility. Then our daughter was born, and protecting and providing for her became one of the most important responsibilities of my life. Throughout my career, whether teaching self-defense, working security, or protecting others in professional roles, that responsibility continued to grow.
The people who depend on us may change over time, but one thing remains constant. We all have a responsibility to do what we reasonably can to protect ourselves and those who count on us.
That doesn't mean living in fear.
In fact, I believe just the opposite.
I love traveling to new places, trying new experiences, and meeting new people. I don't hesitate to enjoy everything life has to offer. I simply think about safety before I go. I prepare. I stay aware. Then I enjoy the experience with greater confidence.
Too many people think safety means giving up freedom or adventure. It doesn't. Good safety habits actually give you more freedom because you're better prepared to handle unexpected situations.
Every day we face risks. We drive on busy highways, walk through parking lots, stay in hotels, explore unfamiliar cities, and interact with people we don't know. Most of the time, everything goes well. But preparation is what helps us when something doesn't.
Taking responsibility for your safety can be as simple as paying attention to your surroundings, trusting your instincts, having a plan for emergencies, carrying appropriate safety tools such as defensive spray, and developing the skills and mindset to respond if necessary. None of these habits require living in fear. They simply require accepting responsibility.
When you make safety a priority, you're not only protecting yourself. You're protecting your family, your friends, and the people who care about you. The better prepared you are, the better positioned you are to help others when they need you.

That's one of the core ideas behind everything I teach. My goal isn't to make people afraid of the world. It's to help people become prepared, confident, and capable so they can experience more of what life has to offer. That's also why I'm building the Enjoy Life Safely Blueprint—to give people the knowledge, skills, and habits to confidently protect themselves and the people they love while continuing to live full, adventurous lives.
Accept your responsibility.
Protect yourself. Protect the people you love. Be prepared. Then go out, explore, create memories, and enjoy life.
Think safe. Stay safe. Enjoy life.
